MetsGiving: How The Mets Give Back At Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving is upon us and the Mets are planning to do thankful acts exceeding the holiday. The New York Mets, in partnership with the Amazin’ Mets Foundation, will once again host their annual MetsGiving initiatives, a series of programs in November and December that focus on helping the community during the holiday season.

Food Drive and Turkey Giveaway

The events include food and coat drives, a turkey giveaway, a holiday dinner for families in need and a holiday party for kids. There will be appearances by Mets players, mascots, front office staff and corporate partners, all working together to give back and help those underserved in the community.

It started on November 13th with a food drive partnership. The Mets partnered with the Amazin’ Mets Foundation at Citi Field on Thursday, November 13 to benefit City Harvest and to bring all types of canned and packaged goods.

Then, the Amazin’ Mets Foundation conducted their 11th annual Turkey Giveaway on November 21st, presented by Stop & Shop with help from local Toyota dealers. They will be distributing more than 8,700 turkeys to those in need before Thanksgiving. The Foundation partnered with a network of 25 community partners across New York City for the distribution.

The distributions took place across all five boroughs, featuring partnerships with Queensborough Community College in Queens (open to current Queensborough Community College students only. Student ID required and checked prior to pickup), which will also receive Thanksgiving staples donated by Stop & Shop, West Side Campaign Against Hunger in Manhattan, New York Common Pantry in the Bronx, Project Hospitality in Staten Island, and City Harvest in Brooklyn.

Coat Drive, Holiday Dinner, and Kids Party

But, it won’t be the end for the Mets’ thankful acts. On December 10th, there is going to be a Coat Drive at the Mets Team Store at Citi Field from 10 a.m. – 6 p.m. Mets players, along with New York Cares will collect donations to keep those in need warm during the cold winter months in New York.

The event will feature a special appearance by the Mets mascots as well as bringing a new or gently used winter coat as well as a voucher for two tickets to a select Monday – Thursday Mets home game in 2026.

There will also be a Holiday Dinner on Tuesday, December 16th. The Amazin’ Mets Foundation and Delta Air Lines are teaming up with Sunnyside Community Services to host the annual Holiday Dinner, serving the meal and bringing holiday cheer to those in need.

And finally, there will be a Kids Holiday Party on December 18th. Students from local schools will enjoy games and participate in holiday crafts, while also receiving gifts and a special visit from Jolly Old St. Nick himself: Santa as well as providing each child with a brand-new winter coat.

Why These Acts of Kindness Matter

This shows how thankful a team can be for people as well as showing they want people to do a kind act in return. I also want people to share and get in on the action. Families and children in need will appreciate it more than you know.
