What started as a week with heavy rain in Mexico turned into a devastating hurricane that came on October 6th and dealt even more damage on October 16th. At first, dozens of communities across central Mexico have been hit with heavy rains, said to be remnants of Hurricane Priscilla that came on October 7th.

As the days went by, authorities unfortunately confirmed 66 deaths and reported about 75 people missing in states such as Veracruz, Hidalgo, and Puebla. Many neighborhoods were reportedly affected by the hurricane, and 100,000 homes have been either severely damaged or destroyed, while federal and local teams continue their household surveys coordinated by the Ministry of Social Welfare.

Federal officials also say that 191 communities remain cut off due to road damage and the ongoing bad weather, particularly in the rural mountain areas. Thankfully, organizations like Direct Relief and the National Civil Protection System in Mexico have come to help the many people in need.
